Ways to stay away from Tension

  1. Meditate – There is probably no better way to avoid tension than doing meditation. Try more extended meditation once a day. Even you can meditate for short periods of time in a quiet place at work if you need to. Try five minutes in wherever you find place and see the results.
  2. Breathe – This is very simple and effective. You can do it almost anywhere or anytime. Focus on just a few deep breaths and let your nagging and busy thoughts float away. This really helps, I do sometime.
  3. Single-task – Focusing on one thing at a time helps a lot in clearing your mind, and avoid unnecessary tension of finishing two or more tasks in time, furthermore having two or more tasks in your plate adds extra burden of completing them with perfection.
  4. Write it down –Writing down things help in keeping away the thoughts popping into your mind, which in return helps avoiding tension of forgetting things.
  5. Be Present – Experience the now and let go of all the endless tensions and negative thoughts.
  6. Stop Worrying –worries are unnecessary tension.
  7. Filter Your Inputs – Your brain is processing the inputs continuously whether you realize it or not. Put on headphones with soothing music or white noise. Go to a quiet room. Stop checking email, Twitter, Facebook, feeds, etc.
  8. Just Say No – Every time you add another task or commitment you add another piece of tension in your mind. Just say no.
  9. Take a media break – Turn off the TV, don’t surf the net for stories or news, ignore newspapers and magazines and stop surfing Facebook, Gmail, Twitter. Once you get past the withdrawal symptoms, the resulting peace of mind is incredible.
  10. Declutter your space – Decluttering your surroundings will help remove visual tensions from your mind. Less tension just makes you feel more peaceful and gives you relief.
